Pete Shelley, lead singer of the influential British punk band the Buzzcocks, has died at the age of 63, the band said on Thursday.
Shelley, whose group helped define the Manchester punk sound and influence the American grunge movement, had apparently died of a heart attack at his home in Estonia, according to the BBC.
The Buzzcocks were known for their 1970s hit song “Ever Fallen In Love.”
“It’s with great sadness that we confirm the death of Pete Shelley, one of the UK’s most influential and prolific songwriters and co-founder of the seminal original punk band Buzzcocks,” the band said in a statement posted to Twitter.
“Pete’s music has inspired generations of musicians over a career that spanned five decades and with his band and as a solo artist, he was held in the highest regard by the music industry and by his fans around the world.”
