A pensioner who kept hundreds of extreme pornographic images – including people having sex with octopuses and eels – has been spared jail but disowned by his daughters.

Tom Quinn, defending, said, ‘Mr Ward lives a very socially isolated existence. He had a family but since being arrested in January he has been cut off by his daughters.
Michael Ward, 70, kept 1,400 indecent images – including images of sex acts with children – on a PC and USB stick, along with family snaps.
‘He is deeply ashamed of his behaviour and at a loss as to why he is in this position at this stage of his life.’
Ward’s adult daughters have cut ties with him since the police raid on January 15.

Ward admitted four counts of possessing indecent images and received a 16-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
