Roger the ripped kangaroo, a giant marsupial who gained viral internet fame for his muscly
physique, has died at age 12, according to news reports.
The 6-foot-5 animal, who was known for crushing metal buckets between his beefy arms, passed away from natural causes, the ABC reports.
“He lived a lovely long life and was loved by millions around the
world,” Chris Barns, owner of the Kangaroo Sanctuary in Alice Springs,
where Roger lived.
“He’s passed away very peacefully under his favorite witchetty bush
where he liked to sleep to get out of the hot sun. It’s a beautiful
shady tree and we found him underneath that tree.”
Barns rescued Roger as a young joey from inside his dead mother’s
pouch in 2007, and told the ABC the mammoth mammal grew up to become his
“best mate”
Roger shot to viral fame in 2015 thanks when a photo of him squashing a bucket lit up social media.
He will be buried at the sanctuary, Barns told the ABC.
“He will always be here,” Barns said.
