Drummer Vinnie Paul of the iconic heavy metal band Pantera has died, according to the band.
Vincent Paul Abbott, who founded the band along with his brother, has died at the age of 54, read a statement on Pantera’s Facebook page.
The death was confirmed by Billboard.
“Vincent Paul Abbott aka Vinnie Paul has passed away,” the Pantera Facebook page announced.
“Paul is best known for his work as the drummer in the bands Pantera and Hellyeah. No further details are available at this time. The family requests you please respect their privacy during this time.”
His brother, Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell, was shot and killed while performing on stage in 2004.
Paul was renowned for his pummeling drum beats on albums such as 1994’s “Far Beyond Driven.”
