Man commits suicide outside White House: cops


  
A man shot and killed himself outside the White House shortly before noon Saturday.
The man, whose identity was not released, shot himself around 11:46 a.m., along the north fence of the White House, which borders the pedestrian zone of Pennsylvania Avenue.
The Secret Service tweeted about the incident at 12:08 p.m. The man’s gun was reportedly found at the scene.
Washington D.C. police took over the scene a short time later. The department confirmed the man died, and said it was working to notify his next of kin. He was not yet identified.
President Trump at the time was at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach. Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley issued a statement saying the Trump was briefed on the incident.
The president and first lady left Florida to return to the White House Saturday afternoon.
