Amazon promised to deliver a programme that would put BBC's 'Top Gear' in the last gear and they have!
Amazon's multi-million dollar investment in The Grand Tour seems to have paid off. The company reported that Clarkson, Hammond, and May's show had the best debut of any Amazon Original series, pulling in more viewers on day one than the previous top show, The Man in the High Castle. This only includes viewers from the US, UK, Germany, Australia, and Japan, the countries where the show is currently available. Two hundred more countries will get the The Grand Tour in December.
The show also brought in loads of new Amazon subscribers. While the company didn't release a specific number, it did say that more people signed up for Amazon Prime on the day of the debut than all but one other day of the year. The only day that exceeded that of The Grand Tour's debut was Prime Day, when Amazon offers loads of Prime exclusive discounts on products.
Amazon also touted the positive critical reception of the show. Among the highlights were a 97-percent score on review aggregator, Rotten Tomatoes, and status as the highest rated show or movie on IMDb.
