A teenage YouTuber has died along with two others after his McLaren ploughed into oncoming cars in an alleged suicide smash.
The online star, who called himself McSkillet, was reportedly driving faster than 100mph when his $200,000 sports car crashed head-on into an SUV, killing its driver and passenger, and erupting into a fireball.
Those killed in the Hyundai SUV were a 43-year-old San Diego woman and her 12-year-old daughter, the Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday.
The 18-year-old had made a fortune selling digital "skins" used to customise guns and knives in the first-person shooter video game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO).
But he was banned from an online marketplace for allegedly being involved in a skin gambling website called CS:GO Magic and had allegedly been suffering from mental health issues.
It is claimed that his income suffered and he had lost access to hundreds of thousands of dollars after being banned.
The CS:GO community expressed shock, sadness and anger over his death, with fellow gamers describing him as the "king of skins".
In December, he posted a video on YouTube, where he had almost 900,000 subscribers, showing off his new McLaren.
One fellow trader told Mirror Online that McSkillet was "very private" and would not reveal his real name or other personal details.
The trader said: "He was a super kind guy who knew what he was talking about.
"He genuinely seemed to care for everyone and he was probably one of the nicest all round people I’ve ever met."
McSkillet is said to have had a "skin" inventory estimated to be worth more than $100,000.
But his YouTube and Twitter activity came to an abrupt halt in February, and it later emerged that he had been "trade banned" from selling skins for his alleged involvement in "skins" a gambling website.
The fiery crash involved about eight cars on Interstate 805 in San Diego, California, just after 4.30pm on Thursday.
It was travelling south in the northbound HOV lane at more than 100mph when it crashed into oncoming cars, the California Highway Patrol said.
The black McLaren slammed head-on into an SUV, killing the driver of the McLaren and the driver and passenger in the SUV.
One of the victims was thrown from a vehicle and died at the scene. A second victim died inside a car and a third died later.
Eight other people were injured.
