A pair of US Navy airmen say they spotted what appeared to be some kind of UFO during a training mission. Commander David Fravor and Lieutenant Commander Jim Slaight said that what they spotted ‘accelerated like nothing’ they had ever seen before.

They were around 100 miles off the coast of San Diego in separate F/A-18F Super Hornets when they spotted the object in 2004. Some of what they saw has now been released by the Pentagon. The object was first spotted by the USS Princeton which wanted to know if the mysterious aircraft was carrying weapons. A mysterious object that could fly at incredible speeds was spotted by two U.S. Navymen (Picture: US Department of Defence) They tracked it for a couple of weeks before going up to have a look at it. Fravor said the objects appeared at 80,000ft then sped towards the sea, stopping at 20,000ft where they would then hover before disappearing off the radar or shooting into the sky.

They described seeing a whitish 40ft long, oval-shaped object hovering around 50ft long, according to the New York Times. Fravor said he could see something breaking the waters of the sea, despite it being a calm day. When he got lower to have a look at it, Fravor said the object started moving towards it.

As he started flying towards it, he said: ‘It accelerated like nothing I’ve seen before.’ They were then told to go to what was known as a ‘cap point’ around 60 miles away – however they were told by the radio operator that the object had beaten them to it.

Fravor said: ‘We were at least 40 miles away, and in less than a minute this thing was already at our cap point.’ But it had vanished by the time they arrived so they left the area. He concluded: ‘I have no idea what I saw. It had no plumes, wings or rotors and outran our F-18s. I want to fly one.
