Roy Halladay’s plane was bobbing up and down, getting dangerously close to the Gulf of Mexico, before his fatal crash Tuesday, video from onlookers reveals.
The boaters who were first on the scene of the wreckage said they witnessed his plane dipping and then rising repeatedly, making extreme changes in altitude prior to the accident that claimed the life of perhaps the best pitcher of his generation.
According to one observer, who talked with TMZ Sports, which obtained the footage, Halladay was “flying like that all week. Aggressively.” Other spectators confirmed the account, saying they saw the ICON aircraft frequently pulling up mere feet from the water, and they were so alarmed, they pulled out their phones to record the sight.
After the plane went down, they boated out to see the flotsam. Hours later, Pasco County authorities confirmed that Halladay was killed in the crash.
Halladay, 40, was a two-time Cy Young award winner and eight-time All-Star with the Blue Jays and Phillies. He retired after the 2013 season and is a strong candidate to be elected into the Hall of Fame following next season.
