George is a tabby cat who visits the store every single day. He lounges on stacks of rugs. He stalks the shelves. He greets customers.
No one is sure who George belongs to, but he seems perfectly happy spending his days in Wilko. So the store’s just accepted him as their new resident.
George has become such a local celeb that he now his his own Facebook group, where people can share photos of their George sightings.

‘Since just after Christmas he’s become a bit of a celebrity and Wilko just put up with him now,’ said Sarah Fowler, one of the creators of the group.
‘People just love him. He’s so cheeky. It’s a pity they can’t train him to serve customers.’
True that. But at least he’s doing important work while he’s in the store, like keeping shelves warm and purring at customers.
Apparently he loves being fussed over, and will happily accept strokes and pats from any passersby.
‘People love going in and giving him a little stroke,’ said Michelle, the other creator of George’s Facebook group.
‘He doesn’t seem to move, he’s just lapping it all up. One woman thought he was a statue.
‘He’s not doing anything wrong, he’s just being a cat.
‘The problem is he’s getting more and more attention so he likes being there, he’s getting fed, he’s getting treats.’
Sarah and Michelle hope that the Facebook group will help them to find out more about George the cat, as they’d quite like to know where he’s from and who his owners are.
