They are without one of the most iconic bands to ever grace the charts, though the story of demise is almost as famous as their tunes. But now ABBA has surprised pop fans, both old and new, around the world by revealing they’ve recorded new music for the first time in 35 years. Releasing a statement to Swedish site Afton Bladet, the band revealed their new digital avatar project had ‘an unexpected consequence’ – them getting back into the studio.

‘We all four felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did,’ a statement from the band read. ‘And it was like time had stood still and that we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyous experience. ‘It resulted in two new songs and one of them, I Still Have Faith In You will be performed by or digital selves in a TV special produced by NBC and the BBC aimed for broadcasting in December.’

They added: ‘We may have been old, but the song is new. And it feels good.’ It comes not long after the the Waterloo hit-makers revealed they were heading back on the road again… sort of.

Earlier this week Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad announced they would tour their music once more, however, they wouldn’t be appearing on stage in real life. Preferring that fans remember them in their prime, the four Swedish stars are having their likeness from 1979 digitized.
